Step back. Breathe. Take it all in. Examine where life is flowing and where it isn’t.

Maybe, like me, you’ve spread yourself too thin with all kinds of interesting projects while the most important things in life are barely noticed and become irritants when they demand your attention.

Step back. Breathe. Take it all in. Examine where life is flowing and where it isn’t.

Maybe, like me, your negative reactions to the most important things in life created disharmony, hurt feelings, possibly even trauma to another you deeply love because you chose to focus on more trivial matters.

Step back. Breathe. Take it all in. Examine where life is flowing and where it isn’t.

Maybe, like me, you feel like you’ll never be able to live up to your ideals and you begin to despair, thinking you’ll do nothing other than continue to screw up again and again and again.

Step back. Breathe. Take it all in. Examine where life is flowing and where it isn’t.

Maybe, like me, you can’t imagine life without something strong to hope for and without something meaningful to live for and you can’t think clearly because you’re overwhelmed with both responsibilities and recent failures.

Step back. Breathe. Take it all in. Examine where life is flowing and where it isn’t.

I think the failures that discourage me are better seen as traffic lights that inform me. They tell me when I need to slow down or come to a complete stop… maybe even consider changing direction.

Just charging through that traffic light without any awareness of its current color can have tragic consequences.

Step back. Breathe. Take it all in. Examine where life is flowing and where it isn’t.

I had to postpone a wonderful and legitimate project with a great group of people who were committed to making it a reality. And I believe one day we’ll get back together and see it through. But right now the traffic lights of my life are trying to tell me something different.

Even the movie I saw two days ago spoke to me on at least four occasions, telling me where I was getting off track and what I needed to do. Life speaks to us all the time whether or not we’re listening. A song on the radio, an overheard conversation, an advertisement on the side of a bus… it’s happening all the time.

Step back. Breathe. Take it all in. Examine where life is flowing and where it isn’t.

And once you know what is out of balance… once you see where the real life is flowing… once you’re aware of how important things have been set aside for lesser things… then make the choice to turn yourself around.
